Baby Chicks

At Potential Living, we’ve welcomed a surprise addition to our VAMW building in Gavin Street. It has become a popular talking point, not just within our organisation but across Scotland and beyond.

Urban Wildlife Takes the Roof

We now have a family of gulls nesting on our rooftop. The adult birds recently hatched three fluffy chicks, and so far, two have survived and are being carefully nurtured by their very protective parents.

As you might expect, the adult gulls are keeping a close eye on their young. Their dramatic swooping and the frequent “kaw kaw” and “kee yah” noise have certainly made an impression. While the sounds might seem majestic, they have occasionally startled staff and passers-by as they come and go from the building.

To ensure everyone’s safety while the chicks grow, we have decided to reduce footfall at the site. Our clubs have been paused temporarily until the young birds leave the nest.

If anyone has advice on how to discourage nest-building in future, we would be happy to hear it. In the meantime, we are enjoying watching the two remaining chicks grow and thrive – from a respectful distance.
